The Knights of Columbus is the world's largest Catholic family fraternal service organization with over 1.7 million members.
Thanks to the efforts of Father Michael J. McGivney, assistant pastor of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven and some of his parishioners, the Connecticut state legislature on March 29, 1882, officially chartered the Knights of Columbus as a fraternal benefit society. The Order is still true to its founding principles of charity, unity and fraternity.
In 2007-2008, the Knights contributed over $145M to charity and donated 68M hours to charity. It provides members and their families with volunteer opportunities in service to the Catholic Church, their communities, families and young people.

SICK AND HOMEBOUND MINISTRY
The purpose of this ministry is to bring the Holy Eucharist to Catholics who are unable to attend Mass (awaiting surgery, recovering from surgery, a resident in a nursing home, unable to drive anymore, etc.) We consist of commissioned Eucharistic Ministers who can drive. At present, St. John's has 3 teams of men and women who provide this service. They visit nursing homes, private homes, hospitals, or wherever they are needed on a weekly basis.
